Never Look Back: RPG writing experiment begins
I've been doing this experiment for a month so far. Every time I work on the game I open a new file so I can't look back.
As far as I can remember I have written a little intro to the idea of the game and then jumped into character creation where you mash up 2 character concepts much like gamma world.
Now, if I were designing smartly I probably would have had more than a vague idea of dice mechanics before writing up character things, but it's too late for that. By arbitrarily deciding on 3 questions and an ability for each concept, and making the list an entire deck of cards I have made a lot of work for myself. Honestly, I'm surprised to have made it about halfway through the deck this month. Perhaps I'll finish the character concept deck during October. Who knows, someone might find that useful all on it's own.
As for the mechanics I have something forming in my head. I know I've got die pools and am calling things trouble rolls but they are all nebulous because If I write them down I can't reference them. Will all the ideas I've had during character concept writing make it into the actual game text? Absolutely not.
